Today there is no doubt that good nutritional habits play a vital role in exercise performance. As an international triathlete a typical training day could range from 2-4 hours split into two training sessions of swimming, biking or running (and fitted in around a full-time job!). With such physical demands on the body I soon realised the importance of eating well to optimise recovery between training sessions.
Several years ago, I was of the belief that all fat was bad fat and should be avoided (certainly not the type of food an active sportsman should be consuming), that was, until I was introduced to Udo’s Choice Oil Blend.
I then discovered that our bodies require "good" fats known as essential fatty acids or Omega 3, 6 & 9. These good fats are essential to counter the negative effects of all the bad ones we consume. Not only is a high "bad fat" diet damaging to health and sports performance but, equally as bad is a ‘low or no fat’ diet.
What impressed me most from the start is that the oil is a ’natural’ food product with essential nutrients our bodies require every single day. Essential for the immune system, our skin, digestion, brain function, metabolism, to name a few. In many sports, particularly triathlon you need energy, and lots of it!
With the increased energy production that the essential fatty acids bring about, the oil blend has given me a more stable and sustained release of energy, as well as notably better recovery.

Background: Did my first short' tryathlon' in 1989 despite not being able to swim that well and got 'hooked'. I raced some cross-country at schools level but nothing serious then took up bike racing and cyclo-cross for a few years. By 1991-1992 I made the Ulster team and managed to win my first ''away' race in Ayr, Scotland. From 1994 – 1997 I wasn't able to train or compete properly due to injury/illness. But in the years to follow I recovered and won my first national triathlon title in 1998 at Cushendun.
